film: Broken Flowers

EDITED PLOT DESCRIPTION FROM IMDB:

"As the devoutly single Don Johnston (Bill Murray) is dumped by his latest girlfriend (Delpy), he receives an anonymous pink letter informing him that he has a son who may be looking for him. The situation causes Don to examine his relationships with women instead of moving on to the next one."

Caught this at a matinee. It was very good. If you are looking for the typical summer fare of shoot em up car chases -- this is not your movie. In that sense, it is a welcome change from the last couple of months. In fact, the pacing in this film is even slower than Lost in Translation. So, prepare to sit still and think for two hours. Once the movie gets going, however, there are some excellent laughs. Bill Murray is one of those people that can be funny by just appearing on screen without doing and anything, and he uses this to full affect here. There are also a host of interesting supporting characters, most notably, Murray's Ethipoian neighbor.

I thought this was pretty damned good. I do, however, have a penchant for slow movies, Jim Jarmusch, and Billy Murray so my opinion on this film is definitely coloured. :)

broken flowers

i saw the commrcials for this movie and was interested...
it does look slow like lost in translation but with a bit more of the murray funny side to it
sounds good

I throughly enjoyed Broken Flowers. It was slow, but Bill Murray did an excellent job with this part. I mean, one drawback could be said that he's always playing the same part now, but so does Johnny Depp, Benecio Del Toro, and (practically) Andy Garcia. I still enjoy watching them on the silver screen because it's *good* from-the-heart acting. I can't help it! :) I'd like to see it again just to clear a few things in my mind. I would deffinetely recommend this to someone that regularly attends Film Houses.

Wait. did you just say Andy Garcia? I think you are the first person to even think of that guy in over a decade.

Ocean's 11?
Ocean's 12?

I'm very disappointed in this. I don't mind slow movies, but this one was far too slow. Well, i didn't really mind during most of it, but it leads absolutely nowhere. I can handle slow or even very slow if it leads somewhere.

waste of time

Ya know, this cautionary tale of wasted time, regret and consequences struck a chord in me. Very slow and meandering. each scene framed like a piece of art. I liked it very much. Also I CANNOT get that tune out of my head...the one that plays everytime he is in the car (I'm not sure but I thnk it is Aire (Pavan A 5 in C Minor) by Fretwork). It's so unusual and unforgettable.

PS. Tilda Swinton as a redneck was so freaking sexy. lol.

Parts of this movie I absolutely loved, but that was it, just parts. It wasn't so much the 'slowness' of it, but exactly like L2R said, I didn't feel like it went anywhere. I was disappointed in the end.:\
