Did anyone else see this special?
Personally, i thought it wasn't done tooo badly. Surprisingly, they looked at both sides of the debate with an interview with a professor against marijuana legalisation and an advocate for it's legalisation.
I was surprised to hear my parents actually agreeing that marijuana would be less of a problem if it was legalised in this country. currently, millions of dollars are spent convicting people on cannabis charges in australia and also campaigning and searching for the plants themselves.
also, pot's potency and cultivation would be monitored, legalisation would more than likely eliminate the "ohh this is so cool i'm taking an illegal drug" factor that initiates a lot of it's use.
The man for the legalisation of marijuana even gave statistics on how 95% of drug related deaths occur as a result of alcohol or cigarettes.
sorry, long post

I thought it was a very good story - giving both sides of the story in a fair manner without advocating on either side. It presented both the pro's and con's of both sides

compared with most stories on drugs in the media (especially on show like 60 minutes) this was really well presented.
im still waiting for a story to ask one of the 'experts' a series of questions like:
"do you think the war is worthwhile?"
"yes"
"do you think it will ever be won?"
"yes"
"when?"
"......"
would love to hear johnny howards answer for something like this.. its quite ironic all the protesting that some of our parents would have done in the 60's and 70's against the vietnam and korean wars being "pointless" and "unwinnable".. yet now they are doing the exact opposite supporting the waste of money on the drug war..

They seem to do some pretty big busts on the news every now and then.... so is the reason they're losing the war because you never see them finding huge hydroponic set-ups?.... everyone i know smokes hydro.
Perhaps could some of the natural plantations be a diversion to keep the cops occupied?

I loved the guy who was arguing FOR it. What a champ. How's the way he said -- not verbatim, I can't quite remember (too many drugs?) -- that pot should be bought from Australia Post, because they're the most effective at driving their customers away.

I thought it was brilliant, so true... you can never find one that's actually OPEN and the service is completely fucked!
I hate the fact that they show those stupid 'drugs are bad mmmkay' ads while doing a story on marijuana. It's so unrealistic to think that someone's going to start stealing/ whoring themselves for dope. What pothead would go to such effort to peel themselves off the couch?

But seriously.
I laughed my head off when that guy was talking about going up the paddock to turn the tap off and not remembering what he was up there for. Shouldn't have though, it's pretty sad, and a good example for what constant smoking can do to you...... but still......!
