A large quantity of cannabis, ecstasy and speed believed to have been bound for Schoolies Week on the Gold Coast has been seized.
Thousands of school leavers and other revellers are expected to descend on the Gold Coast from this weekend for the annual end of Year 12 celebrations.
Targeting major drug suppliers ahead of the event, members of Queensland's drug investigation unit have arrested three men in the past two days following the seizure of large quantities of illicit drugs.
A 47-year-old from Durack on Brisbane's southside was charged on Monday with several drug offences after picking up a parcel containing 12.5 kg of cannabis from a Coopers Plains transport company.
Following the bust, a premises at Surfers Paradise was searched netting further supplies of cannabis, amphetamines or speed, and smoking utensils.
A 26-year-old Surfers Paradise man will face at least seven drug-related charges.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, police seized 18 kg of cannabis and a large amount of speed, ecstasy tablets and a large sum of money after searching a house at Tingalpa on Brisbane's southside.
A 57-year-old man is assisting police with inquiries.
Meanwhile, Premier Peter Beattie has issued a welcome to Schoolies from across Australia, but warned them to play safe.
"Queensland is not just the Sunshine State, it is also the Smart State," Mr Beattie said.
"That means it's cool to have fun in the sun and after dark, but you're a fool if you fry your brain or your body."
The Queensland government has hired youth coordinators to help manage the massive event, while more than 1,000 volunteers will be on hand to offer assistance.
Additional police, ambulance and emergency services officers will also be assigned to both the Gold and Sunshine Coasts for the duration of the 10-day event.
