This thread is probably more suited to social. I'll let it go for now, but other mods may think differently. In an attempt to "dress the topic" a bit, how about categorising the movies as either best for?

Come up

Peaking

Comedown

Here's a single entry for each (I could think of thousands)

Come up: Der Lauf Der Dinge (the way things go) Not really a movie, but the ultimate science domino show, try e-mule

Inside a warehouse, a precarious 70-100 feet long structure has been constructed using various items. When this is set in motion, a chain reaction ensues. Fire, water, law of gravity as well as chemistry determine the life-cycle of objects - of things. It brings about a story concerning cause and effect, mechanism and art, improbability and precision.

Peaking: Monty Python, Meaning of Life says it all really

Comedown:Tough Guys Don't Dance 1984; this is a really twisted movie but very deep and a total mind fuck. Only for those who like to have their head twisted with on Come Down. If you can concentrate, its one that will leave an impression forever. One of the most underrated movies IMO, this Norman Mailer story is definitely not for the paranoid

Norman Mailer's "Tough Guys Don't Dance" has the form of a thriller and an impressive content of sex and violence, but beneath that is a strange nostalgia that seems to have nothing to do with anything else. The nostalgia is for Provincetown, seen in a cold winter season with the weathered gray houses against a pink and purple sky, the gulls' cries lonely in the twilight. This place is so deeply seen that the people in the movie sometimes seem like ghosts, occupying it for a time.

That is the deepest level. Above it is the practical plot level of severed heads, missing persons, alcoholic blackouts and dirty business to be done. The film's hero is Tim Madden (Ryan O'Neal), a writer in a slow season, whose past begins to catch up with him. He has spent a good many years drinking too much, smoking too much pot, sleeping with the wrong women and not sleeping with the right ones. Now he has made some people mad at him, and one day he discovers a severed head in the place where he hides his stash.

Here are a few movies:

1-> Alice in Wonderland (the original cartoon)
2-> Dark City
3-> The 13th Floor
4-> Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
5-> Blade Runner
6-> The Yellow Submarine
7-> Being John Malcovich (?)

Just a few off the top of my head there are probly many more. If your into electronic music look for inspiration in your favorite tracks. Its funny where some of those samples come from....

1. Yellow Submarine - Beautiful and very ahead of it's time
2. The wall - Grossly intence
3. Trainspotting - Grossly intence
4. Human Traffic - Seems very familiar
5. Fantasia - Beautiful
6. A Bugs life - Beautiful in a cool way
7. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (now available on DVD and I have mine)
8. The lion king - Very cool movie
9. The labrinth - Can be quite intence
10. Monsters Inc. - Very cool movie

Now you know too much about me now I will have to kill you all.

Purely for the confusion/thought provoking value - Magnolia and Mulholland Drive...

The rules of attraction...

A dazzling array of cinematic tricks (split screens, freeze-frames, running the film backwards, rapid editing, etc.) are used to depict college students floundering in the pursuit of love and meaning. Drugs, blow jobs, pornography, booze, rape, masturbation, '80s pop tunes, beatings, suicide, attempted suicide, faked suicide, loss of bladder control, and trite pseudo-philosophy are on display as pretty young actors with squeaky-clean images attempt to dirty themselves up.

Majority of the film is backwards hehe.

Watch this movie enough times (it takes at least 4-5 to capture everything) and the way you see the world will likely be changed forever)
Tripping definitely hastens the process ;)
