Winter is coming now
But you could hardly tell.

Cicadas call out
To a velvet night sky
Teeming with stars
More abundant than sand grains

Cats curl their faces into
Bellies warm and full
While people curl their faces into
Screens and odd distractions

Autumn feels quite hopeful
Quite sure of something new
The wafting cooler air
Gently tickles reluctant skin

Once tanned and reddened faces
Burned under the harsh sun
Go pale kissed by vistas
Cool and clear blue to the eye

Gusts chilly crisp and biting
Rush down through the vast city
Claw painfully at drawn faces
Walking wind tunnels piercing soft-skin

Long night times can be peaceful
Wrapped safely in embroidery
Designed just for the harshness
Of pure and icy darkness.
