Why legalized marijuana is forcing some police dogs into retirement. USA Today.

Hemp is legal in all 50 States. So it doesn’t mater if marijuana is legalized in the State. That means this is not a new issue related directly to legalizing marijuana.

But society in general has had the “wool pulled over their eyes” so to speak. The employment of drug detection k-9s is not some great adventure try to rid the country of illicit drug use. The k-9s are an effective tool used to circumvent 4th Amendment protections. Their soul purpose is to alert on cars (or other areas that are Constitutionally protected),cars the officer wants to rummage through.

Yeah those dogs are often used in a very corrupt way, very much in a way that circumvents a person’s 4th amendment protections…a lot of times the dogs handler will make some cue for the dog to indicate, which is why a k9’s record of “false positives” is important for court-related purposes

That’s assuming there is a record of false positives. Who would be responsible for the keeping of these records? That would be the police themselves. Do you really believe they would keep accurate reports? Some that may question their dog’s credibility? Nope they will say “shake” was in floorboard or previous passenger could have had marijuana. Now those “false positives” become confirmed positives and Fido’s credibility gets boosted.
