Opioids Why does Codeine seems to repress my breathing more than Hydrocodone?

Keep in mind I also take Valium. Also, it's not like I'm gasping for air and turning blue. I take very minimal doses, maybe around 90mg Codeine at once. I take 9mg of Valium a day.

Is it because Codeine can cause allergic reactions? Also, the high just seems kind of.... dirty, compared to Hydrocodone, which is much more clean.

It also could just be anxiety causing this.

Codeine does tend to cause higher rates of respiratory depression than some opioids such as hydrocodone, in my experience. I do not know if there is factual info backing this up, but from my experience and my research, it is very common to feel more respiratory depression from codeine than from equivalent (in strength, not number of mg) dosages of other opioids

I don't think opioid potency is necessarily linear to levels of respiratory depression, for example kratom causes minimal to none. But a histamine reaction would certainly make sense, especially if you're prone to asthma, but then it'd be more like wheezing/tight airways than slow breathing in my experience.
