Cocaine What happened to me and why?

Hi,

I am trying to understand why I recently collapsed with a rapid heart beat and why. I have done a lot of research on the internet and think the advice from more experienced users would really help. I will try to keep this short, also thanks in advance for any feedback.

I moved to Colombia last year and began taking cocaine regularly (once a week) for about three months. I always drank with cocaine and occasionally took Viagra during this period (although not on the same night as the coke). I then left the country and returned two months ago. As soon as I arrived I started using cocaine twice a week, always while drinking (usually only a couple of beers) and in the last month was probably taking Viagra once a week, but never mixing with coke in the same night. The reason I mention Viagra is because my research which suggests cocaine and Viagra can cause the potentially deadly serotonin syndrome?

So last Friday night I played football for a couple of hours, returned home and started using coke from 11 pm to 5 am while having a couple of drinks, I probably did 4 or 5 very small lines as my tolerance is low and the coke here is generally very strong. The following night on Saturday I took 70 mg of Eroxim Fast (Colombia's equivalent of Viagra), had a few drinks and smoked some weed with a female friend. After she left at 2 am I had a strong headache and woke up at 6 am with shortness of breath. I felt like I couldn't breath as I was falling asleep so I ate a banana and walked around my apartment for an hour. I woke up on Sunday morning ate and went to the local shopping mall to drink a coffee and eat a burger as I was feeling rough. After I finished eating I felt really light headed and then started to feel my arms go numb. My face also started to go numb (especially my lips) and at that point I had to ask for medical help as my arms felt like they were 'bubbling' with liquid going up and down and I could feel my face getting more and more numb, I was pretty scared. I was taken to a medical room where my heartbeat went from normal to around 170+ BPM in waves, being almost unable to move and barely able to talk, with the whole thing lasting over an hour and a half. I was given two ECGs that day (both fine), blood tests (fine) and 4 drips, the doctor said I had too much coke in my system.

My question is why the delayed affect between taking coke on Friday night and my collapse coming on Sunday afternoon? Is taking cocaine on a Friday night then taking Viagra the night after dangerous? Also what actually happened to me? Was it a panic attack or some sort of mild stroke? I have never felt my arms and face go numb like that before, and coupled with the rapid heart beat it was scary stuff.

Any input would be great, thanks so much!

Im not a doctor but that to me sounds like a heart attack.

Idk if heart attacks show up on ecgs or bloodwork or not.

This has nothing to do with serotonin, and you can't get SS from cocaine and sildenafil.

It was probably atrial fibrillation, brought on by the combination of everything you'd been taking and then the caffeine, though really you'd be best advised to ask the doctors that treated you for a list of potential causes. Eating, drinking, taking drugs, dehydration, disrupted sleep and so on can cause a lot of different and contradictory impulses from different branches of the nervous system, and that can mess up the heart.

If you're concerned about causing something like this again in future, avoid mixing stimulants like caffeine and cocaine, and avoid taking cocaine while drinking alcohol.

Thanks for the response, I'm going to take your advice and ask for more answers when I go to see another doctor next week. In terms of the serotonin syndrome and mixing the two drugs I read this on therecoveryvillage.com:

"When cocaine and Viagra are used together, it can cause something called serotonin syndrome as well, and in some severe cases, complications of mixing cocaine and Viagra can include seizures, an irregular heartbeat or a coma"

Looking at more articles it seems to be this is more of an issue with ecstacy and viagra rather than coke, just thought I would share. No plans to take coke again, which is a shame as it can be a fun drug but I'm far too irresponsible to trust myself not to abuse it

Yeah, I could see how it would affect ecstasy users, as that works on the serotonin much more than stims like cocaine. Good choice to put down the coke, a very responsible and smart decision seeing your history with it.

Good luck, stay safe.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that so many journalists misunderstood a study on 'sextasy drugs' and interpreted the correlation that MDMA users will often take viagra in order to get an erection as causative of SS (and then interpreted MDMA to be cocaine, which is even more ignorant). It's that kind of unscientific scaremongering tosh that causes a lot of drug users to ignore other genuine warnings.

Regardless, your issue would more likely have stemmed from catecholamines in the way I described. But do ask your doctor(s) for more info when you get the chance in case you have an underlying afib or something similar.

Viagara was originally a heart medication and increases blood flow to the extremities not seen as vital such as the penis so it just caused erections as a side effect.

This faux viagara works the same and its not worth using recreationally at all unless you need to get it up .

I strongly suggest you dont fuck around with viagara or any drug that supposedly works the same way. Dont use it with other stimulants as you will experience what you did.

Cocaine is great so just appreciate it and what it does, use it wisely. Dont mix in other shit as being ill or dead is a total buzzkill.
