When I was growing up weed really was a weed in the midwest--when we went to visit grandparents in Iowa it filled the ditches by the side of the roads along with chicory. Had no potency to speak of but I always liked the smell and thought it a very pretty weed indeed.

It's certainly an aesthetically pleasing plant - psychoactivity aside!
I think it looks quite beautiful in the pictures on the vice article. Rather amazing how adaptive different strains are to radically different climates as well.
That's a pretty amazing childhood memory!
