it's always just vague references to "drugs" when such things are involved. I guess their pop culture is so ill-informed on the matter they can't even have the horribly sensationalist depictions of things in US shows.

Yeah, that's fairly accurate it seems. The general populace has been so socialized to react negatively about something the actually have no clue about that just the mention of the word "drugs" has the average person reeling in horror.

It's just one more aspect that makes them resemble the America of the 50s and 60s.
