I read somewhere on Erowid that the half-life of caffiene depends on if the person smokes. Is it the nicotine in the tobacco that decreases the half-life or some other alkaloid? Does that mean a ciggarette decreases the effect of caffiene?

smoking tobacco induces CYP1A2 (apparently it's not the nicotine but other constituents of tobacco smoke but polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), which metabolises caffeine among other drugs. i don't think one cigarette will have any noticable effect, but being a smoker surely makes a difference.
