Loved this movie.

I knew nothing about it other than the title.

Was very pleasantly surprised.

5/5

Highly Recommended.

Couldn't finish it, watched it for like an hour. Clooneys character was funny but the story just seemed to drag on and was pretty dumb.

2/5

I loved this movie.

I have to see it again, maybe I wouldn't like it as much, but upon first viewing I thought it was funny and had interesting points brought up. The cast was awesome too, everyone played their role well. Plus the LSD scenes were great.

I've seen this movie a bunch lately and it's definitely one of my favorite movies. I love the whole story, the characters, the acting, the dialogue, the music; it just works!

And I'm bumping this thread because of it

You gotta free your feet before you can free your mind!

^ Still better than making a new one.

I didn't love the movie. It had it's moments but all in all it seemed kinda bland.

I saw this last year and don't remember it clearly, but I remember walking away from it with positive thoughts. Maybe a rewatch is in order.

Finished the book a few days ago, was a really easy read. Definitely enjoyed it as much as the movie :)

I'm going to guess that majority of my love for this movie/book lies in my profound love and belief that the humans have more power than they believe and attempting to develop these strengths is a worthwhile pursuit. I had read about MKUltra (which has a brief part in the movie, more about it in the book) years ago, but the whole story and various elements of it just clicked with me. <3

The book is fairly similar to the movie, except that their is more of a plot in the movie (Ewan McGregor going overseas, meeting Lyn, then them going into Iraq). The book was more of the authors quest to tie people and events together since this particular branch was in the black budget (off the books). Lyn Cassidy (George Clooney) in the movie is just a composite character of many different people. Jeff Bridges character in the movie is also a composite character, but he's largely based off of a man named Jim Channon.

One character who was not a composite character and only had a brief part in the book/movie was the guy who could hold heavy sandbags by his scrotum. He was also the inventor of the shock-and-awe, leaping and spinning knife attack. That scene in the movie is pretty much taken verbatim from the book. The real life guy was Michael Echanis and he was straight up crazy (but also a Green Beret that could easily kill you)!

I am bumping this thread because I just watched this other day while tripping. I knew nothing about it before viewing (may read book now). I loved the movie 5/5. And it had LSD in it. I was worried it would be too plot heavy but it was easy to follow. And it had a positive feel good message that left me smiling afterwards. Would be a good double bill with Big Lebowski.

I haven't seen the film yet, but the book is without doubt the funniest book I've read in years. Can't recommend it highly enough. I'll have to watch the film, bit probably won't be as good as the book.
