A MELBOURNE teenager is fighting for life after six people overdosed on drugs at Melbourne’s Stereosonic festival yesterday and one man died in Adelaide.
This afternoon the identity of Stefan Woodward, 19, was revealed as the man rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital about 5pm on Saturday, where he later died.
A police spokesman said illegal drugs were the suspected cause of the man’s death.
“The initial investigation indicates the man had consumed an illicit drug and was in possession of a number of pills,’’ the spokesman said.
Police released images of orange pills imprinted with a dollar sign, which they say “may be related” to the death.
A Melbourne man — in his late teens — was yesterday taken to Western Hospital in Footscray in a critical condition.
He is now in intensive care with his condition reduced to serious but stable.

Five others in Melbourne were taken to hospital as a result of drug overdoses amid 70 arrests at the same event.
Two others were also still fighting for their lives in Adelaide, with the death there coming just a week after the death of pharmacist Sylvia Choi died at Sydney’s Stereosonic.
She overdosed at the Sydney event after ingesting MDMA dissolved in a bottle of water.
In Melbourne, two others were treated by paramedics - one man was taken to hospital for a medical condition while another man, in his 20s, was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with a serious head injury after a fall.
The awful fallout appears to have been traced to a dodgy batch of pills stamped with dollar signs.

The drugs appear to have slipped through a police dragnet in every state, before the man’s death in Adelaide.
The deaths have put the future of the Stereosonic festival in doubt.
In Brisbane today where the event kicked off, there was a heavy police presence.
Many festivalgoers were stopped and interviewed or searched.
Dozens of tributes to the man were posted on Facebook last night as his friends and family came to grips with the man’s sudden death.
A 20-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were both fighting for their lives after attending the Adelaide event last night.
Victoria Police this morning revealed that drug dogs had led to 70 arrests at the festival, with drugs seized including ecstasy, MDMA, amphetamines, cocaine and cannabis.
Of those held, 56 were issued diversions, six with cautions, two were expected to be charged on
Diversions were given to 56 people, 6 people were issued with cannabis cautions, two were expected to be charged, two others were charged and bailed.
PM’s shock at death
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull described the man’s death in Adelaide as shocking and tragic.
Mr Turnbull and Justice Minister Michael Keenan spoke about the death as they announced a package of measures to combat the drug ice.
“Someone takes a pill and dies — probably, perhaps — unaware of the risks that they were taking,’’ Mr Turnbull said.

“(This is a) tragic event and all of us here have the same sympathy for the family.”
Mr Keenan said authorities went to enormous effort to try and prevent illicit drugs from being taken into music festivals.
He said the government was not planning to support “pill-testing”, where drug users could use testing kits to check on what was contained inside illicit drugs.
“My heart goes out to the family of that particular individual who obviously have seen the worst possible consequences of the danger of illicit drugs,’’ Mr Keenan said.
“But it’s a reminder to us about how dangerous these substances are. You don’t know what’s in them and if you’re taking them you have no idea what you’re putting in your body and what the consequences can be.’’
South Australian police mirrored the views of Victorian authorities today, saying
despite repeated warnings about risk-taking behaviour a young man had died in “the worst possible outcome”.
“Despite our efforts despite the media messages, the warnings in relation to risk taking behaviour that people engage in — in taking illicit drugs ... we’re still in this tragic situation of a 19-year-old man who is now dead,” Superintendent John De Candia said.
Police would not reveal the number of tablets found on the dead man but confirmed the other overdoses were not from the same tablets that featured a dollar sign on them.
Forensic testing will be done on the pills in question.
Images appeared on social media showing a toilet wash basin filled with condoms used to smuggle drugs into the music festival.
In a statement on their Facebook page, Stereosonic organisers said they were “devastated to hear of another loss to drugs”.
“We are imploring people to see the dangers of the situation, enjoy the day and please be safe,” the statement said

A Geelong woman banned from yesterday’s event after being caught holding pills told the Sunday Herald Sun she had agreed to hold five “upper” pills for her friend, who was a lawyer, and for whom she had offered to be the designated driver.
She said she hid them in a container of mints and a sniffer dog had singled her out at the gate.

My take on this article.
Orange $ signs in SA, more adulterated "MDMA" pills containing PMA, whos fault is that?
6 others OD'ed on something, not specified in the article. Fuckload of arrests, except people still got drugs in there cos I was gakked as fuck on a few things. Sylvia Choi overdosed last weekend on something, according to this article she took an imported MDMA pill (yellow Snapchat) in water but another article says she took the pill by itself then later drank water mixed with an MDMA capsule containing something unspecificed. Lots of articles saying lots of things, will post the links as I find relevant stuff.

Talking about drugs slipping through police, and yet the solution is that we have to close the event next year to stop this from happening. Who's fucking fault is that? Dude, if I can't get on drugs there I'll go to the 5 or so clubs on King's street that'll give 0 fucks about me being on drugs instead. Like... Stereosonic's organisers have already said they're down with drug testing at their events, how much more cooperative can they get? This takes away my faith in the organisation of our police force. How many failures does it take for the message to get through to them? They seriously want people to stop taking drugs. Let's ask the grass to stop growing as well. No pun intended.
70 people busted, most of them presumably done for personal use by the statistics given. No surprise there.
Breaking news: our PM has no idea what the fuck he's talking about as far as drugs are concerned. Like, it's totally a shock that someone's gonna die from our laws and regulations as far as Stereosonic's past is concerned... Suppose he has to say something, with the media attention Stereo gets. But as far as the information this article presents goes, I really don't see how ice comes into the picture.
Cops did go to extreme lengths to prevent drugs getting in. But yeah nah, didn't work. 6 overdoses are a pretty good indication. And I just dropped before I went in. Not exactly an art form. My condolences to the family of the person who died in Adelaide. But no-one gives a fuck about the risks presented from ingesting illicit substances. It's been proven. Haven't been paying a lot of attention to this media issue for long but it's getting really old how much the police spokespeople seem to never address the other factors that could prevent these fucking deaths from happening. Really really old.
Person who died in Adelaide with an unspecified amount of those orange $'s on him, the rest of the OD's in Melbourne caused by an unspecified "tablet". Stereosonic organisers telling people be safe for fuck sake, but not specifically telling them not to take drugs. Same old same.
Can't even be fucked pondering wtf an "upper" pill might be. Too drunk. Anyway, am I wrong? Will scout around for more Stezza articles in time.

^^ Prohibition does do something. It allows the state to throw innocent citizens into concentration camps (aka jail/prisons). Especially here in America - the cops literally love throwing innocents people in jail more then they like throwing murderers or rapist in jails b/c they get more grant money from the Federal Gov't for every drug arrest they make. They get nothing for capturing a thief or murderer. Therefore if you ever get mugged or carjacked and need the help of the police just tell them that after the guy stole your car he threw what looked like bags of cocaine in the passenger seat and the entire police precinct will jump out of their chairs and run out the door like crazed madman looking for your car.. Otherwise they will probably just look at you and hand u a piece of paper and tell you to fill it out and then drop it in the trash can.

Yeah we need change. Stop focusing on end users of drugs. Implement things like pill testing and more medics and less cops and sniffer dogs. More 'chill out' areas that are actually cool by air con or light mist water sprinklers. The Aussie summer is hot as fuck and people partying in the arvo heat with many thousands of other people whilst on drugs and alcohol is a recipe for disaster.

Our government either doesn't care, or wants to see more funding for the police so they continue this charade that they are winning the war on drugs or as stated above they have a vested interest in busting people for relatively small amounts of drugs to get them in the system (court, jails etc).

It's a shame the government and media spread so much shit because MDMA pills would be easy to legalise. The manufacture, distribution/sale of them to over 18's would be easily done by pharmaceutical companies and chemists, but there are so many straight as fuck, ignorant and two faced people out there that refer to people who occasionally have a few pills as junkies and say things like serves them right if they die etc whilst getting drunk themselves and popping pharma pills that they think are totally fine because a Dr has written them a script for and it's made by big pharma. Well how about this idea then, Dr's write scripts for people who wont to buy E's you get up to 5 on a script, it's made by big pharma and costs 20 bucks a pill and is a 120 mg clean MDMA pill with packaging that has some basic info on it like what to do and not to do etc. Fuck it's not rocket science.

Many of the pharma drugs have mad side effects and make some people act strange as hell and get abused and also kill many people from OD's, so why the hell can't people use MDMA pills if they wont to and the Dr says it's ok and writes the script? Sure some people will abuse it and steal/forge scripts and take 50 pills but does this not already happen with oxy, xanax and many other types of script only pharma pills? The majority of users would be fairly responsible and use moderately and we'd probably see less harm happening because people would have a very safe drug to take every now and then at a festival, club, house party or doof or whatever.
