it's the things he brought out in you
the feeling you could be something more
than conveyer belt emotions
and acceptable rebellion
remembering the first time you questioned
and had to find your own answers
when you were given the benefit of the doubt
to figure this out for yourself
there's a rake thin man who said
put on your red shoes and dance the blues
now those red shoes are faded
they're just stirring up dust.
