Yeah it was debunked. When I first read it I was pretty fascinated though.

It would be unlikely you could live with someone in the basement for that long without noticing something. And I wouldnt want to do chemistry in an enclosed space like that, between fumes and spills its just best to not do chemistry where you eat/sleep.

But yeah no way an entire family wouldnt notice his presents, kids go everywhere they would have found or heard something.
