Misc Risk of Intestinal Scarring from Kava

I was watching The Good Doctor - 22 Steps and was fairly surprised when they mentioned Kava cauing eosinophilic gastroenteritis resulting in severe intestinal damage. I know stories are often embellished for TV shows, but is this kind of damage possible from Kava use? Ive tried it a few times, and always assumed the only real risk was possible heptatoxicity (liver damage). If anyone has any information on the possible side effects from Noble Kava, id appreciate it.
