Don B, 29, heroin overdose after relapse.

Jeff S, 34, speedball overdose - Jeff, you were so calm and cool, you moved like a swan, with such ease, you tortured poor J and all the girls who were in love with you, you took hollywood by storm, you played a great game of chess.

And mostly, Tony K., 32. Knocked out at the end of an endless crack binge, died in fire, smoke inhalation. Tony. 22 years later we are all getting together again to remember you. You were relentlessly brilliant, spontaneous, inspired. You made everyone laugh and everyone think. You loved helplessly, deeply, passionately. You were more original than all of us, more honest than all of us, braver than all of us. You dwelled on death and mortality until you came to crave it, you invited it, it consumed you. A hundred people thought (rightly) that you were their best friend, and you talked with us on the phone all night, falling asleep, about anything and everything in the universe. Dude, best friend, you were bigger than the universe. You were immense. Your consciousness was a drug, to all of us, you never needed drugs, you did drugs out of exhubarence and daring and they became a habit and all the sad lost inarticulate Tony-ness of your dead father and narcissist mother and frustrated love for a thousand dumb beautiful girls who didn't understand you got sucked into a crack pipe - how many times we said it was the stupidest, most easily avoidable thing, and you left all of us, and the world so dull and empty, chasing a thirty second dopamine rush, oh you beautiful man, I'm so sorry you're gone, the world is half-empty without you Tony.
