A spike in blood pressure can cause ringing in the ears. MXE has been reported to raise blood pressure. Try taking an advil or asprin and avoid stimulants for the rest of the day, or until the after effects wear off.
This is not the guaranteed reason for your problem, but I have had problems with blood pressure and my ears ringing before, most notably with DXM.
