“Oh, torn ACL? Wisdom teeth extraction? 10 day non-stop excruciating migraine? Here’s some ibuprofen, have a nice day.”

What is wrong with medicine now days! The medical field is not evolving, it’s devolving. What they try to help, they do the opposite.

Taking effective pain meds away from patients with literal suffering doesn’t help. It’s making the problem worse. If a drug addict wants his fix, they are going to find it some other way. So why cause millions of patients to suffer just for the “hopes” of changing a problem that’s been around for centuries? Why change the whole system that’s been working for millions of people (and for plenty of years).

Yeah maybe a couple things needed to change, but you don’t just go and completely stop the use of an effective medication because a small percentage of the population is abusing it. Is it really fair to punish the whole class for one students actions?

One thing I learned with horses, is that if you discipline them too much, your goal won’t be obtained. They get bitter and angry instead of gently obeying your command. We need to stop doctors from punishing innocent people.

The reason I’m ranting is because I have not been able to find a single doctor with my insurance who will prescribe benzodiazepines. I don’t abuse them anymore (haven’t in months if not a year), and use them for my legit psychiatric conditions. My psychiatrist would literally rather watch me have panic attacks, and constant daily social anxiety.

In addition, I recently got what’s called Status Migranosis. It’s a migraine that lasts longer than 72hrs. Only 1% of people with migraines have gotten this condition. Well, I was lucky. I got a TEN DAY MIGRAINE, and the docs would not prescribe me any opioids. This was after trying everything else, and nothing worked. I sat in the hospital screaming and crying from the skull prying pain for ten days while these Dr.’s basically sat and watched as I suffered.

I just don’t see how any of these new “reformed” doctors are following the Hippocratic oath. “I will keep them from harm and injustice”. Yeah right.

The modern-health care system is BS.

Well arent you someone in their like mid 20s and who had an opioid habit or something to that effect 🤔

In any event few physicians these days will prescribe a young person an opioid for migraines

Whats funny is i was writing that last sentence when on my TV in the background i heard John Redcord say to Nancy, "I can't treat you for your migranes".

I guess those doctors are pulling a John Redcorn on you (although they can treat you not through the use of opioids). At least not until they try a number of other things first. Plus opioids have mixed efficacy for migraines.

Yes I’m in my mid-20’s. And I do like opiates (I’ve actually been clean for a decent bit now). However, are you suggesting drug users shouldn’t get the same treatment as non-users when in severe pain? I’m not even saying to prescribe opioids after the fact, I’m talking during.

And Lol! What a coincidence!

And yes, the doctors tried everything (Benadryl, Toradol, Zofran, Saline, etc.). The typical migraine cocktail. Even a team of neurology specialists were called to see me. I am being sincere when I say nothing worked.

What bothered me most is I heard the doctors talking outside my room, and one even suggested using tramadol, but another doctor just said to “let her ride it out”.

Is that not a prime example of going against the Hippocratic oath?

They think they're doing you a favor (and they sort of are). If it were me maybe id give you something but definitely not a prescription for a narcotic. Who knows i wasnt there, you can't forget doctors are people and if you rubbed them the wrong way (or they knew your history) that could contribute.

Toradol should have helped. They didnt try zolmitriptan or etc?

I don’t recall them trying zolmitriptan. Oh, that’s Zomig! Yes I had some at home and tried it b4 I went to the hospital, and it didn’t work. As well as other “preventive” migraine meds I have.

Correct me if im wrong but Opioids are known to cause headaches not cure them. An NSAID or APAP would probably be more effective for headaches.

It is ridiculous but the truth of the matter is opioids should never have been prescribed past 7 days that’s what created the epidemic.

Anyone taking something as strong as oxymorphone or Oxycodone is gonna be physically addicted long before a month script is gone

I agree that the people who do need medication can't get it and that is a crime. Wisdom teeth extraction is not one of those cases though, it can be managed on otc meds. 800mg ibu + 1000mg apap and you'll be fine. People think these meds don't work but that's cause they don't even try.

Interesting. I’ve experienced this before, I once got a 4 day migraine after snorting cocaine one of the first times as a kid, couldn’t leave the room and spent most of it throwing up the pain was so bad. When it came on I was in a crowd moshing and it felt like someone had decked me from behind even though no one did. Very brutal.

Since then I’ve often experienced them for days at a time here and there but it’s rare these days due to proper diet. My dad does too.

As for the rant, yup… lol. I’ve already shared my story on that one, it’s interesting how opiates have been prescribed for generations but now we can’t handle them anymore?..

I think the problem is purely down to oxycodone giving them all a bad name, and society just not being happy with how things are. Fix those, don’t hold back legit pain medication for those that truly need it.

This is true. And even if you get dry sockets, opiates won’t touch the pain. They aren’t lying about that, I tried. Alcohol helped, but the best was hot sauce or pure capsaicin, believe it or not it can work as a very good pain reliever especially for oral aches and pains.
