Hey all, random thread. As someone with a Psychology degree, I do have insight into this but wanted to get other people's feedback. I, myself, have conducted studies, participated in numerous.

There is a study I'm looking to participate in and for a few reasons I don't want to give them my real last name. I don't like to lie but I don't think this will negatively impact the study in any way; the information will still be accurate and my information is not pertinent in any way to the study. Personal info is usually just used for classification/organizational purposes. Participants' personal information has no impact on the research and information itself, but I still feel conflicted about it. I won't get into why I don't want to give my last name, but for argument's sake, let's just say it's not an option.

What do you think?

Thanks for weighing in, I appreciate everyone's opinion (as long as it's not rude) :)

I don't see why giving your real name isn't an option. You even said it affects nothing.

i wouldn't feel okay about giving a false name for a study i am participating in where i am getting paid.

I guess it depends on what type of study I would be applying for. But yes, it makes sense.
