Pain management after vivitrol

I?m new to this site so I?ll try to phrase this all correctly. I have been on the vivitrol injection for 7 months. I discontinued it because I?m having surgery in a week. I am 46 days past my last shot and my doctor prescribed me Percocet for the pain I?m experiencing before I can have my surgery done and it has not effected me at all. I have no pain relief and noticed there are no other classic effects from pain killers. How long should I expect this to last? Should I postpone my surgery? I do not want to have it done and not be able to manage my pain.i don?t want to tell my doctor about the shot because especially in this area they are very judgmental and it will probably red flag me in the system so I can?t get proper pain management in the future. I was court ordered the vivitrol during probation for a cannabis possession charge, nothing to do with opiates but in WV we have Day Report centers for most non violent drug offenders and they push the shot on everyone that goes there, most likely because the insurance reimbursements basically fund the whole program. I am in a lot of pain and very frustrated. I just want to know how long the vivitrol will stick around. Again I?m 46 days past my last shot.

This is a tough situation you're in by having the shot forced upon you by the legal system. :(

I have a couple of questions for you. Are you required to have more injections or are you finished with them? Can you talk with the physician who administered the shot? They would best know how long the effects will last. My understanding is people get them monthly but from what I've read its effects can linger on a bit longer.

For now, I would be hesitant to have surgery as well and I don't blame you for not wishing to share this with your surgeon. Have you tried Motrin/ibuprofen or Naproxen sodium? They provide non-narcotic pain relief.

We have lots of threads about the Vivitrol shot. Here's a few to get you started:

I am done with the injections but I?m on probation until February so I suppose they could start them again if they think I?m abusing something. It is ridiculous to me that having only 1 charge ever and it being for cannabis that they have me on this program but I?m almost done so I?ll just have to get passed that. I?ve been trying everything I can think of and nothing has given me relief. I have gallstones and am waiting for a gallbladder removal. I had an attack like this last year and the only thing that helped was the IV dilauded they have me at the ER and the pain killers they prescribed. I really hope I don?t have to wait too long because it is excruciating. I?ve read some people have been blocked for over 60 days post shot I hope that?s not the case.
