Hi all,
SWIM has come across Oxynorm (oxycodone hydrochloride) 1mg/ml liquid and am wondering if anyone has experience using it via an intramuscular or subcutaneous injection? It doesn't have dosage route instructions on the bottle (ie Oral, IV, IM etc...) but taking it orally seems to have little to no effect and SWIM doesnt IV use at all for anything, but would try IM or subcut if it was suitable. Basically, would it be safe to give it a try? Has anyone tried it this way? TIA

Medicines that are dissolved in solution and meant for injection will typically be in a container that is labeled as such i.e. "Oxycodone Hydrochloride 1mmg/ml for SC/IM/IV Injection" If the container is not labeled as such then there is no way to determine whether your solution is sterile or not. If the bottle is unsealed you're fucked anyway. You can only guarantee sterility if it's labeled and sealed. Otherwise it's anyone's guess.

And btw, welcome to Bluelight :)
We don't use SWIM here as it serves no purpose and only makes it ahrder to read your thread

FYI Oxynorm is an oral solution. The name of the product is for an oral preparation of oxycodone. Just like Oramorph is an oral solution of morphine.

With a simple Google search https://www.drugs.com/uk/oxynorm-liquid-5mg-5ml-oral-solution-leaflet.html
5mg/5ml is the same as 1mg/1ml. 5ml is a standard spoonful size.

It also contains these additional ingredients:
• Saccharin sodium
• Sodium benzoate
• Citric acid
• Sodium citrate
• Hydrochloric acid
• Sodium hydroxide
• Purified water
• Hypromellose

It's clearly not suitable for injections.

oxycodone has a very high oral BA, take it that way. Or rectal if you want a faster onset.

IMing sugar solutions is not smart.

Yeah stick to oral administration, oral is almost as high as IV anyway.
