Hey everyone wondering if anyone can help a friend of Mine is using Prozac for anxiety and had noticed the effect of oxycodone both recreationally and pain relief has reduced to almost nothing, after doing some research found some info on enzymes and that both drugs share the same one, question is does anyone know a way around this without stopping the Prozac ( for example would snorting instead of oral bypass this maybe?) or even any opiates that are Ssri friendly? Thanks guys any help would be much appreciated

Hi Adrian, Welcome to BL :)

Many SSRI's including Fluoxetine inhibit CYP2D6 which is what converts a portion of Oxycodone the drug to Oxymorphone among other metabolism effects. The same holds true with codeine and the demethylation to morphine. So the short answer is your friend will need to switch either AD's or pain meds. Oxycodone has a decent oral bioavailability and insufflation won't do much as even though you're bypassing the hepatic portal very little of the drug is being converted to active metabolite OM. You could try snorting a small amount but it still won't fix the enzyme issue.

Wish I had better news.
