I read on the Net that a washout period is normally 5 half-lives of the drug. Codeine and oxycodone both have a half-life of about 3 to 4 hours. Thus I assume that these amounts will be eliminated from my system within 24 hours, correct? Or are there metabolites present that prolong the washout period?

I think what you are asking is how long will metabolites show up in a drug screen? Check the websites for employee drug testing. Oxycodone in low doses will not be picked up after a day or two in most but with codeine, one of its metabolites is the same as heroin and most tests are very sensitive to that metabolite. Remember that most of these eventually are passed through the liver and metabolites are created and then filtered by the liver. Some metabolites persist for a long time demending on how high doseage was.
