Does anyone know anything about how doctors can prescribe morphine in Canada as a maintenance medication for opioid addiction? This seems to be a difficult question to answer as I haven't been able to find out anything more than that it seems to be legal in Canada to prescribe long acting oral morphine for opiate addicts. Any help with this would be very appreciated.

Thanks

It is legal here....for maintenance my family doctor has prescribed me OxyContin, MS Contin, Statex morphine IR, Hydromorph Contin. He often made me do daily dispense as I would go back and forth between methadone maintenance and being on short acting opioids, and he may have been worried I'd abuse and/or divert them....daily dispense actually worked good cuz I had a guaranteed fix everyday.

He even gave me a script for 100 mgs of diazepam once daily which I tapered off of to get off a ridiculous xanax/clonazepam habit....this was also daily dispense
