Are any of you previous addicts that underwent surgery post-addiction? Were you afraid that you may become addicted again? What were steps that you took to ensure that you would not become addicted again? If you were prescribed medication (such as percocet, vicodin, etc.) after surgery, did you take it? Did you talk to your doctor about your history of addiction? If you didn't, why not? Do you even feel comfortable talking to your doctor about addiction or do you prefer forums such as this one to answer your questions? Did you become addicted again? What do you think caused you to become addicted again?

i had recently gotten clean when i had to have some really painful surgey, so painful that i decided i would rather roe the dice with addiction than suffer (it was dick-related fyi).
told my doctors who made some adjustments - you've gotta do this cause your tolerance might be so much that they don't give you enough.
woke up hooked to a fentanyl drip, as opposed to a morphine one as its not as euphoric and went home with a prescription for codeine which i never cashed.

ended up relapsing 2 months later for unrelated reasons and immediately found that Rx and ate it.

either way, when it comes to people slicing me open and putting their hands in my chest cavity i'm always going full-disclosure.

you got my respect bro anyone who has surgery or related stuff does im so phobic of that i was sopposed to have a tube camera thing down my back side but i had an endoscope a few months prior and they didn't sedate me properly I was still awake with it inside my throat going all the way down my lung pipe and I couldn't breath so I coughed with it inside me and the guy in charge was one of the most arrogant full of himself head staff guys their is his staff were all standing around him like he was a god and to this day I swear I walked out of that fukin edoscopey(when they let me out cus I had to wait incase I was to sedated even though they undersedated me anyway god I hate hospitals and anything else unless its just a quick 10 minutes cashing in a prescription WHICH H A S NEVER IN MY 2.5 YEARS OF COLLECTION FROM THE SAME PHARMACY NEVER HAPPENED NEVER HAS MY SCRIPT BEEN DONE ON TIME)

Im babbling on a bit here but Ive been afraid of any invasive proccedure since it doesn't help that on the leaflet they say 10-20 minutes after you have an endoscopy you could have a heart attack as it puts you at an 50% increased risk but dont worry because the leaflet said this is perfectly "normal" so you can use that to make you feel better, lol.

On another note Keeping man im just thinking of that wasted codeine I need to socialise more I bet on average atleast half of the adults in uk have codeine lying around that they dont even use or some even never used lol. My only dream is to have an unlimited sply....one day my friends.... one day.

woah, giggles got banned fast. wtf went down? he seeemed okay ¬¬

OP, the biggest question is, are you still dependent upon Opioids or Benzodiazepines of any kind? If so, please explain to us what your current situation is. If you are only worried about becoming re-addicted to Opioids post-surgery, than that is a much more minor issue. To be real about it, if you tell your anesthesiologist or your surgeon about your history of addiction, it essentially equates to them giving you less or no pain medication following surgery. It's usually black and white in that way. It all will come down to your decision, I'm afraid.

I know that it's a little scary to think about becoming re-addicted, but you also need to treat your pain to be able to function properly post-surgery, so you will have some tough decisions to make. In the end, the MD's play a very small role in whether you end up with problems again or not.

Do the moderators have any experience in healthcare, addiction services, or psychiatric services? How is decided who becomes a moderator?

This is very true, Keif. I'm had surgery last year, and still dealing with chronic pain, but I'd never tell doctors I'm an exaddict. It's hard enough to get proper pain meds as it is. Last time I got off all meds, I just cancelled my appointment with pain management and stopped going. It's a struggle, but the doctors aren't really concerned with whether we relapse. Most anyway.

moderators are trusted member of the BL community, but being medically trained isn't a pre-requisite to the post. this is just a HR website, at the end of the day, altho i'm sure some mods must be professionals in those respects.

Does anyone moderate these responses for accuracy? If so, who?
The OP was asking for other member's experiences in getting addicted after surgery. There are no right or wrong answers here. Why would you think that someone's responses are inaccurate?
