I watched the newborn spiders crawl
from their tiny wisp cocoons.

So new to life, I see them born, but,
being far from enlightenment in the weariness
of this restless night, and witnessing
one newborn menace land near my pillow,

I introduce them to death.
The slightest pressure of my finger
destroys dozens at once.
I am ashamed to recall this hunt,
and my walls are once again clean.

I remember how some frantically jumped,
dodging my fatal attacks,
and they reminded me of my own,
When a frantic, thoughtless, jump
from here to someplace else
was all that kept me alive and
removed from the hand of death,
Wielding profoundly more power
than my own death-like hands would ever possess.

So new to life, and so quick to die.
I am the conquering Goliath,
but I never did get to sleep.
My eyes fixed
on that spot, near
my pillow...
