Muscle rigor: Can amphetamines and/or supplements I use cause this?

Hello, I'm worried cause lately I have issues with my forearms. There are days where they feel very strange. What I experience are things like: weakness, fatigue in the forearms shakiness, not able to write properly! tingling feeling like my arm slept in and is just waking up when I flex my arm and then extend the arm my thumb shakes! (i have this is on both arms!!!!) I have been to a neurologist. He tested the nerves from the head to the arms and they are okay. He also did a physical exam and said that I have a rigor. He said this isn't parkinson but he didn't say if this rigor is a bad sign or what to do if it doesn't go away anymore. I really don't feel like this will go away. I also cannot tell how long I have been having this. I mean usually I don't look at my hand and check out wether it shakes when I extend my arm.... I wonder if amphetamines (for adhd) or supplements which I take could have something to do with this. Or could the supplements interact with amphetamines and cause toxic reactions? Or could any of these supplements be responsible for my issues? Supplements which I take frequently but not every single day are: 1) choline 2) glycine 3) taurin 4) acetly-l-carnitine 5) creatine 6) glutamine Should I stop taking amphetamine or the supplements? It sucks that I don't know what causes this. But this stuff is really scary. I mean this isn't like a broken arm where doctors easily know how to fix it. --------------------> Sorry guys, as soon as I post the text all paragraphs are gone! I tried it several times to put them back in and it doesn't work.

Taurine is most likely the culprit IMO just a wild guess but it is the most active compound of the gaba complex initially loosening your muscles and subsequently tightening them up as it wears off you do need a hefty dose though

I wouldn't have thought the taurine was to blame really. Tremor (which seems to be mostly what you're describing) is pretty common from stimulant use, and can get worse the longer you use. If you take a break from amphetamines for a few days, does the condition change?

I also have doubts as to whether it is the taurine, if you'd like, you can try to discontinue the glutamine, taurine, and ALCAR.

But it is likely just as CFC said, a result of the amphetamines.

hello,
i use only 1gr taurine and not daily! i take it very unfrequently.

i also dont think it's the amphetamine either, i wish it was that simple.

i have these symptoms no matter if i take stimulants or not!

i'd also assume that stimulants would cause shaking and trembling maybe also muscle weakness.

but how likely is it that the muscle weakness ONLY occurs in the forearms?! and what about the rigor? i have noticed this the first
time many years ago that my movement isn't absolutely fluent when i flex my arm and then straighten it. back then i didnt think
about it. but suddenly this has gotten much worse!
i dont know what to make of this. i also have tingling and discomfort in both arms.

i dont even know how to narrow this down. it could be neurological or maybe it's coming from the neck/spine.
i dont know what to do now. i am scared of MRIs cause of the narrowness and i'd really hate having to get a MRI of the neck
but to me it appears like i have to do it in order to rule it out as a possible cause. :(

the neuro i went to thought maybe it's caused by lamotrigine but i dont know how much sense this makes because the symptoms are only
in the forearms and not the whole body.

this stuff is really dragging me down. i cant simply try to ignore it when i have this feeling in my arms and when i cant move them fluently.

ps: i have been using zolpidem almost every night (10mg) for at least 5 weeks straight. could this have anything to do with this?

but again, when i first noticed that my forearms fatigue extremely fast and that i could not even hold a pen and write after kneading some dough
i wasnt taking zolpidem yet! this means that zolpidem is most likely also not the explanation.

Yes, get the MRI of your neck. Zolpidem is an unlikely culprit, only because you mentioned the symptoms began before Zolpidem therapy was initiated.

Zolpidem, and other short acting hypnotics that works on GABA receptors, are known to increase muscle spasms, as well as other conditions, during waking hours...you could think of this as almost a physical version of "rebound anxiety" although this is an oversimplification.

But again, this started before Zolpidem was added. Amphetamine lasts quite a long time in the body, much longer than mental effects are apparent...have you gone over a week without taking it?

Are you deficient in B vitamins, magnesium, or potassium?

Are you anemic?

The fact that you "noticed this first many years ago" (sic) means you really should look into what else is going on in your daily life...have a CBC done...perhaps reduce your adderall dose...get the MRI.

Are you diabetic?

Is your shaking like going off an on, like a rhytm? i cant explain it, or just a constant tremor?

Hello, the doc told me to get a MRI of the brain and the neck! I'm pretty scared of this. :(
I have neck pain quite frequently my neck also cracks/grinds when I move my head around.

I'm not diabetic, also not anemic. I take B vitamins, also magnesium. I don't take potassium.
Potassium seems to be tricky and if you take too much it's dangerous this
is why I don't take it as a supplement.

I don't have shaking. What if have is a slight trembling of the fingers when I stretch them out, but also not all fingers!
The small finger and the ring finger sometimes tremble on their own.
The other fingers are still and these 2 tremble quickly.

What I have is: discomfort, feeling of weakness, fast exhaustation, tingling ALL in the forearms.
But I don't have this all the time it's worse on some days than on others.

And the most noticable and also most worrying symptom I have is that when I bend my arm and
then slowly let my hand down then my hand trembles! Actually it's not just the hand which trembles
the fingers tremble themselves. Or maybe it's the entire hand and the fingers tremble cause the hand
trembles. But it's most visible when you just look at the fingers.
I have this on both arms and it is always present.

I noticed years ago when I was still lifting that when I flex my arm and then extend it/straighten it that
my movement wasn't 100% fluent. Bending the arm is absolutely fluent, but letting the
arm down is not fluent. I am not sure which muscle is to blame for this. I thought it's the biceps but I'm not sure.

Anyway, this has definitely become worse! I cannot say when this started but it's very noticable.
If I tried to eat soup now I'd spill a lot especially if I tried to lower a full spoon. Raising a full spoon
is no problem cause bending the arm causes no trembling, but if I try to lower a full spoon then I'd spill it.

I don't know how likely it is that amphetamines cause this. I emailed a adhd specialist and asked him if he's
aware of amphetamines causing a rigor and he said no.
And if amphetamines were the cause then WHY should this rigor only affect the arms? This also makes it look
unlikely that amphetamines are the cause.
