I'm on a methadone script but have started going the gym again with my mate I've lost a lot of muscle and weight will my script affect my gains significantly and make it hard to gain or lose weight I know that opiates affect your testosterone levels

Yes it will lower your test and make it harder to gain.

Still a great healing activity. I did amateur bodybuilding on methadone for years. Definitely needed to juice once I was taking it seriously

Exactly what this guy said also. Methadone tanks your test worse than any other drug. Consider it anti-testosterone. I remember i couldnt even get off to porn for months at one point.

Maybe think about switching from methadone to suboxone which doesn't affect T levels, or perhaps get on TRT and slowly say fuck the other bullshit like I did...

So I will still be able to build muscle on a low taper dose will just be harder

It really depends. I never regained proper test levels after kicking my heroin habit. Even after being natty and lifting hard for a year. So was 22 so youth was on my side too

Lifting weights was instrumental to me getting off of methadone. As I was tapering I was lifting hard and heavy and was able to both gain muscle and lose fat. And i believe the exercise itself helped me mentally.

Exercise seems to have analgesic effects, which seemed to help take the focus off of my aching bones. That said, I had to soak in a tub everyday to help with those methadone bone aches.

So I won't becoming arnnie but will surely start to look like I did when I was a into fitness and body building all the time just at a slower pace and be harder I'm only on 40 ml ATM so it's low

Buprenorphine affects T levels. It also fucks up metabolism even more so than some “classic” opiods.

I won’t make a thread for this but will just post it here.

In my case I have problem I’m often in too much pain to work out without opiods. So a balance between smoking a joint and taking something like paracetamol and doing nothing physically and getting proper pain-relief and working out and eventually improving my pain via that but not getting strongly addicted to opiods is a hard road to go..

I do get muscle gains on opiods but it’s definitely a lot slower than without them.

If/when day comes I find a pain relief medicine that works properly but isn’t opiod I’m throwing a party.

Taking anabolic steroids in my case.. I’m sure in the beginning it would feel perfect but as years would pass I would probably regret I even started but who knows. There’s a lot of breakthroughs in this field so who knows what all will be available in years and decades to come.

Please provide a reference to the research regarding suboxone affecting T levels. If it does, it is negligible compared to any full agonist opioid.

Yeah, I'd say methadone has a much more profound impact on hormones and metabolism than buprenorphine.

Methadone even made me fat, which is very uncharacteristic for me. It made food taste really good and gave me a ravenous appetite. Granted I was maintained on 380mg/day, so it so made me take naps during the day (which is also extremely uncharacteristic of me - I never take naps nor am i able to)

But it all evaporated when I quit it and began lifting heavy. It did leave me with a touch of gyno though. That never seemed to completely go away but its very slight.

Soaking in a HOT bath tub is amazingly effective at eliminating any discomfort from opioid withdrawal

half a Clonidine, Valium 10mg, and some good Indica, slip into a hot bath and melt into comfort, 100% pure relief

it’s sick how uncomfortable you feel in opioid withdrawal, cold achy bones, sore muscles, runny nose, chills, hot & cold flashes, wet underwear from creepy cold sweat, ugh….absolutely disgusting

Im on morphine and have no trouble gaining muscle. I gained about 15 or 20lbs of muscle this year so thats not bad. Im not dependant on it though i take breaks now. But even when i was taking 150mg's a day i could still gain muscle.

Do you take it for opiate addiction or pain? I would get your test levels checked before you do anything really. But switching meds could definetely help for sure

I gained a lot of muscle when i was taking modafinil, tramadol, alprazolam. This made me energetic, less sensitive to pain, i was able to lift more while on opioids than without them...

If you were previously into lifting weights and have now detrained and lost muscle, you should be able to gain what you lost back pretty quickly and easily regardless of methadone due to your increased myonuclei.

When you gain muscle, you get more myonuclei to support the extra muscle fibers, these nuclei stick around even after losing the fibers and they're able to quickly ramp up transcription of the muscular machinery more quickly than someone without

It's refreshing to see someone who knows a bit about physiology.

Basically as long as those myocytes are around (I think cell life for them is like 5-10yrs if memory serves right), then all those additional nuclei are there from the previous satellite cell recruitment.
