Men in porn... 'Objectifying Nightmare' or 'Livin the Dream'?

So the thread about women in porn sparked quite a bit of conversation. A lot of people love it, a lot of people hate it. But what about the dudes? Some theorists claim that because the focus of classical porn is the objectification of women, the men are just stand-ins and, as such, escape 'objectification' and victimization.

Is this true?

And what about gay porn?

What about fem-dom BDSM porn?

What IS the role of men in pornography, and is 'right' or 'wrong' even a question?

I feel sorry for them. They all seem to have faces like fire damaged lego.

I've corresponded and communicated with men who did porn all types of it from gay, bisexual, hetero, and fetish/leather/BDSM type porn.

They all said how contrary to what people believe you don't make a lot of money doing porn, and that you make more money by being a prostitute on the side than from appearing in porn videos; but they videos are basically like free advertisement to potential or future johns/clients.

The porn guys also told me how once you do porn, even if it's just one video it's always out there, there's no hiding it, and that pretty much everyone will know you did porn or can find this out if they want to, and that for some people who do the whole porn/prostitution thing that it can be very difficult to go back to leading a normal life or working a regular job where you don't have sex with strangers often for instant cash.

They also said how it's not that fun doing porn since you have hot bright lights on you, people around you like a director telling you exactly what to do, when to do it, how to act, etc., which positions to be in, that porn is basically masturbating using someone else's body, it takes all the fun out of sex, and despite what you see in porn the men, women, or whoever is in it are usually not attracted to each other at all. The porn/ex-porn guys I communicated with also told me how despite what you see at the start of porn videos saying that nobody is on drugs, does not have an STD, etc. that this is BS since lots of people who do porn do get high before or during filming, and a lot of people who do porn do wind up with STDs, and people often do get infected with STDs but they show up as being "neg" on the test since they were just recently infected.

I know an independent porn producer in Knoxville that's always looking for a new place to shoot. He set up in my buddy's house one afternoon to film a couple scenes. We had drinks with him later that night and met some of the 'actors'. Now, this may indeed be a special case because their enterprise resides outside of the 'industry' proper, but all of these guys seemed like they were having a great time.

Don't get me wrong, they're in the business to make money, but it seemed like they enjoyed their line of work. I suppose churning out scenes in a 'porn mill' type setting would be a whole different can of worms, but I've never really been exposed to that scene, so I wouldn't know.

This was a bit of an experiment testing the theory that nobody really cares about men's role in pornography. It's amusing how protective society still is of women, despite the modernist liberation of gender.

First generation feminists protest pornography due to its objectification of women (down with pornography!). Third generation feminism condemns any system that would deny a woman her sexuality (women should take pornography and make it theirs!).

I guess it's tough to get heated about male victimization in a patriarchal system. Oh well.

I'm pro-porn for females so obviously for males as well. I mean, there is the obvious stuff (when people are forced into it, kids, etc.) that is terrible. But adult, consenting porn? Awesome for everyone.
