Opioids Is getting high on methadone daily dangerous

I have to take 30mg of methadone daily for maintenance and since I have a fast metabolism, unless I take this much (which gets me decently high, noddy almost) Ill be feeling dope sick before 24 hours is up. So will the long half life make this dangerous since this is a high dose for me while it is peaking around the 3-6 hour mark. Hard for me to type this feeling like this

The problem with methadone is its tendency to cause potentially fatal respiratory depression even when not taken in a polydrug situation. IIRC, methadone also produces more respiratory depression in proportion to its analgesic potency than most other opioids.

Both those factors (and the additional phenomenon of R depression even after peak analgesia is over) alongside its half-life make methadone one of the more risky long-term opioid replacement therapies.

I have too much knowledge of methadone fatalities through people abusing it, hence my insistence on caution.

Personally I would treat methadone cautiously and would rather under shoot than over shoot. YMMV. (Do note I am not suggesting not taking it; methadone is effective used properly.)

As Mad Dash said, don't mix. Methadone doesn't always like polydrug use.

My advice to you is to start lowering your dose a little every couple days and try to get off of it. I never experienced withdrawals from methadone but I have lived with people withdrawing from it and it is not pretty. I don't know if this is true so correct me if I'm wrong but my friend told me it takes about 30 days to kick methadone and that 30 days is hell he told me so I would try and get your self off it as soon as possible.

If your on maintenance you need to up your dose. There's no reason to go sky high but your dose should be high enough to hold you 24 hours.


Everyone talks shit about methadone withdrawal but I can promise you suboxone withdrawal is just as gnarly. Quitting any long acting opiate without a proper taper is glutton for punishment. Don't be scared to reach a dose that holds off your sickness and cravings. I'm on 130mgs a day and haven't felt this good in a long time. I don't crave heroin 24/7 anymore. At this dose the constipation is the only major side effect but I am able to mostly control it.

Methadone should be easier to taper off (than heroin or other recreational opioids) because of the long half-life. I can't really help with the OPs problem, but the long half life should make it easier to taper so you avoid any withdrawal. If you're wanting to eventually get off opioids then there's some logic behind using methadone to do it, they don't just use it to try to kill addicts. The whole idea behind it is that you don't go into sudden methadone withdrawal.

Branggen you should tell your doctor, or whoever organises your methadone treatment that you're getting withdrawals before your next dose, they are the only people that can do anything about it & they should know what to do, maybe they'll suggest splitting the dose or something. If you've recently started methadone treatment then it might take a while for the level of methadone in your blood to stabilise, but some people are fast metabolisers of it & might need two doses a day.

I just don't understand why you would trade one addiction for another one? Why would you tell him to up his dose if anything he should try tapering off of it not going up in dosage that's just idiotic.
