If a drug (for example MDMA) gets tested positive with a maquis reagent, does that me theres no impurities in there?

No. If it tests positive for MDMA, it generally implies that there is some MDMA in there.. Even then, there are similar drugs that can give virtually the same reaction.

Cutting agents, other drugs, by-products from synthesis seem to cause different reaction times/secondary colours etc. but will still end up positive for MDMA as long as there is some MDMA content in the mix. Basically, marquis will give you an idea of what's in front of you, but it is by no means the most reliable testing method.

All the marquis test shows for black/purple is the -- presence (emphasis) of MDMA/MDEA/MDA/5-APB/6-APB (possibly 5-MAPB/5-EAPB/ etc) really black = dextromethorphan

It does not exclude the presence of other substances (although a large amount of amphertamine/meth or methylone may cause a purple- brownish reaction)

As has been said, no. It's a pretty good indication that MDMA is present (other drugs that give the same reaction are rarer), but it does not rule out impurities.
