A PILL originally marketed as “Indian Viagra” and containing Opium is being openly sold in South Asian grocery stores in Australia.

SBS Radio’s Punjabi program uncovered the illegal importation of the pill known as Kamini Vidrawan Ras (Kamini) after listeners raised concerns.

The pill, which contains highly addictive substances as well as heavy toxic metal, is being sold as ancient Indian herbal therapy but there’s nothing holistic about it.

Independent laboratory testing on products purchased in Melbourne revealed that the pills contain Codeine, Morphine and Papaverine — major components found in Opium.

“Many people have contacted us about opiates and other illicit substances imported from India being easily accessible in most Australian cities,” SBS Punjabi Radio executive producer Manpreet Kaur Singh said.

The investigation found there was between one and five per cent (approximately between 2mg and 20mg) of Opium in a typical Kamini tablet.

“This is definitely not an Ayurvedic medicine. It contains chemicals and components which are probably banned in most countries around the world. It is highly addictive. This medicine is so dangerous that if someone overdoses on it, it can even
be fatal,” Melbourne medical practitioner Dr Gurdip Aurora told SBS.

It’s believed the pills may be imported into Australia alongside grocery items.

I'd be more concerned about the heavy metal contamination in products such as these. Chinese and Indian herbal remedies are notorious for containing high levels of cadmium, arsenic, lead, etc.

I was thinking the same thing. And the widely varying opioid content.

Otherwise, I'm pretty sure this medicine IS holistic. Just not in the way that many people use holistic, but correct in the definition sense.

You guys ever hear of that alcohol shit being sold all over as well? In plain view of children... They pour it in a glass with ice and other mixtures to mask the taste.. Makes people go crazy!!

^seriously. Most of what people say about cannabis or other drugs is true x2 about alcohol.

Marketed to children? Added sugar wine coolers, hard lemonade, ads with funny characters, etc.
Visible to children? Sold in supermarkets, advertised on TV, etc.
Used in front of children? Constantly

In fact, if you try to keep your children away from alcohol, you're the crazy one...

What are the chances this these "remedies" are being sold under the table in asian/indian stores in the US?

im going tomorrow to my local indian grocer. ...tell him i need some indian viagra

the shit is openly being sold in ebay shipping from new york.

Holy shit you're right! Just looked on eBay myself...

I think the issue here is that India doesn't give a shit... On one of the eBay listing they had a picture of each side and it actually has an ingredients list--Papaver Somniferum is listed prominently as one of the ingredients (like 2nd or 3rd on the list).

could be the cops, but i doubt they would bother with such an obscure foreign medicine.

someone send a sample for testing to establish opium VS heavy metal content before purchase plz ;-)

^ if you do the math of 2-20 mg of opium per tablet. at 30 tabs per bottle....heroin is much cheaper and stronger. not really worth it in my opinion
