I see that we have nearly half a million members, but there can’t be near that many regulars.

You can go to the pulldown for 'Members' and see 'Current Visitors'
Then off to the right side are some widgets with statistics. It's limited, but mostly accurate
The reflection of 450k members is a system count of all registered accounts. Realize a handflul have been deleted or merged over the years (likely under a 100) that bring that number down...but to your point, those are registered accounts, not regulars. That's all registered accounts since 1999 that we still have.
The 'Online statistics' I believe is only counting those active in the past hour or so. Again, not a full count of 'regulars' becasue some regulars aren't on 24/7 because of real life or other minor distractions.
The Xenforo software does track this a little better, but it's only visible to admin
This reflects just under 50 accounts registered per day on average, with around 475 daily users (registered accounts, not bots and lurkers) active daily. We also utilize GoogleAnalytics, which does a bit more detailed tracking in terms of where visitors come from (IP's converted to geo-locations, but without any connection to any account information...just what IP asked for a web page). GA indicates the bulk of our active members are in the US, Australia, and UK by far....though we do have members scattered all over the place.
We also used to do better about publishing some activity stats for general public awareness and pub topics, but with the change to XF it isn't as easy to access, so we're overdue in updating this thread in ANNOUNCEMENTS - ⫸Random BL Stats Over Time⫷
