I have been using 15 mg of oxycodone 3 times a day for 4 years for my condition, I have a pretty complicated case of ulcerative colitis and have several flares during each month. This medication is prescribed. This month was very bad and I took more than I should and I have 10 days before I can get my script. What can I do to help in the meanwhile? I have Gabapentin, Xanax, clonanazepan, hydroxyzine Pamoate. Please let me know what I can do because I do not want to go into withdrawl, I hear it is horrible. I also do not want to end up in the hospital. Thanks to anyone that can help.

The Gabapentin and benzodiazepines should help a lot but everyone is different in that regard.

Go buy some Imodium (loperamide) which is an opioid that doesn’t cross the BBB easily. Dosage is usually 2mg but 10mg along with the Gabapentin can really help.

There’s also poppy seeds but they are dangerous in that they vary significantly in dosage.

Kratom is another option. As well as legal cannabis if you live in an area with such.

Thank you so much! I was able to get Kratom. Let’s hope for the best.

If you take the Kratom you should be fine you tolerance isn't really high so that should cause you to not get sick at all. Or if you do feel some withdrawal it would be very minor especially with Gabapentin and a low-dose of a Benzo. G_Chem hit the nail on the head and you dont have much to worry about since you found the Kratom. With a tolerance like you have that's the perfect thing to take for your withdrawals, hope you feel better.

I am in exactly your position @Lollipop2 with sever left sided Colitis. You are doing well to stay that low to be honest. Where are you from? Also do you take any ER Oxy or only IR?

You may find more controlled relief, from using an ER Oxy as a baseline, with some breakthrough IR Oxy.

I am prescribed 50mg Longtec (Oxycontin) b.i.d, with 10mg Shortec (IR Oxy) for breakthrough pain as required.

Note: My primary med to keep flare ups at bay is Amitriptyline 100mg at night. Very effective to lower bowel urgency and bloody stools. Hope this helps!!

Thanks for your help, I know that I am on a low dose but with all the issues with controlled substance I am afraid to ask my doctor for a better method of pain control. I used patches but they gave me allergies and I asked him to put me on buprenorphine but he said he was hesitant because of my entyvio and allergic reactions.

They prescribed amytriptiline but only 10 mg and it was my psychiatrist as a sleep aid????

Kratom worked pretty good in combo with gabapentin. But I had to take a very high dose of both!

Do you have a Gastroenterologist? If you have a good one, it is a godsend. My GP takes his lead from the specialist. Otherwise I would probably still be fighting for bloody ibuprofen for pain 🤣😆🤣😆!!

Is it a new diagnosis? If so, it will take time to find the right balance. Some never find any meds to help, and end up with a re-section, and/or a stoma bag.

Ask your Dr about Amitriptyline, it is used quite frequently for Crohn’s and Colitis nowadays.

My gastro prescribes pain medication if you have surgery, which is completely ridiculous. I have a pretty good pain management doctor but he is very cautious In prescribing. But at least it’s something, I know that there are a lot of people out there with our same condition and they can’t even take Ibuprofen!

I was diagnosed 4 years ago and was in and out of the hospital almost every two months because they could not control my UC! It was horrible!

I hear ya, sometimes it’s downright ridiculous. Luckily my Gastro is happy to control my pain, but it has taken almost 10 years to be happy with treatment and not fighting for help.

How ridiculous is it for you to have a PM Doc, and they hesitate on the job they are there to do 👎!! If you need any info drop me a DM anytime. What’s your pain meds and other treatment at the mo then?
