Hello bluelight, I need help please! My friend ruined veins in arms, and while searching for others tried the vein on top/side of the lower arm. They registered fine, pushed down plunger, & at some point re-registered to make sure still in vein (maybe bc they felt pain?) & found that they were NOT still in vein. They pulled out and immediately a huge swell developed. They are in brutal pain with swell has gotten worse over the last 48 hours. The color of the swell is red. Is medical attention needed? How can you tell if its infected or just like a bruise that needs ice? What should they do to speed along healing?

I would advise immediate medical attention. Missed shots often cause inflammation, but the fact this has persisted for 48 hours and they are in a lot of pain doesn't bode well. Let us know how they get on please.

If it’s hot or painfull to the touch then I would seek medical attention . Probably will give you some anti biotics and tell you if it gets worse to come back for drainage . But you should for sure go if it’s not to much of a hassle .

Thanks! My friend went to er and received antibiotics which helped within a day! Unfortunately now her other arm where they drew blood is swollen & she is concernes why her arms are suddenly so sensitive
