Stimulants Getting high on XR medications for ADHD

What's the difference between crushing the beads in XR meds and putting them back in the capsules and taking them rather then letting the beads be and just taking the capsule with non crushed up beads?
 
The beads in Focalin contain a mix of 50% IR and 50% ER release mechanisms. If you crush or chew the beads, you can destroy much of the ER mechanism (probably not all, but a lot) thus making it mostly IR. Other drugs use abuse deterrant beads (the new reformulated Zohydro comes to mind) which are not so easily beaten.
 
The XR caps beads will break down unevenly. I find them kind of tweaky. If you do a real good job crushing up the beads, as Kittykat5 said, you will basically create an IR medication. The XR will do its thing, being weaker and taking a while to break down, while your new IR med will hit quicker, more powerful, but last shorter in duration.
