I know this a forum full of people with experience in so many areas, and a lot of people for the most part have connections in their experiences to people who also have connections in the same place. In the void. The look over the great divide as Mckenna put it.

Where then, does one begin to search for people who have the same psychonautical tendencies? I'm all out of ideas but a mind full of adventure and longing to talk to people on more than just a forum about tripping, get to make some new friends to share experiences with.

Where should I start?
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.

Not one of your IRL friends a bit open minded, or even just curious?
For me it just grew within existing friendships. Me being the root of all evil, harhar.

Nah, all my friends and acquaintances or straight heads or just not compatible in that department. It's just so difficult to find people to talk about this shit with especially your neck of the woods isn't accepting and open about its recreational drug use :/

Move to an area full of hippies like i did 25 years ago and you will be able to find like minded souls

I don't suppose there are any raves held regularly in your area at all? Honestly, most of the people I know in real life who could be called psychonauts I simply met fortuitously, but I did make a few real friends in that department through the rave scene around here. Admittedly, you're more likely to find people who just want to get high and have fun, but a lower chance of finding psychonauts is still a higher chance than many places. Really, if you want to find people who do drugs, of any kind, you can always go where all the drugs are and find at least some of them.

Aside from that, I mean, it's going to be difficult to really find great places that you can be sure you'll meet a psychonaut at some point... at least if you're just talking about regular places around where you live. If you have a source of income and/or the ability to travel, have you ever considered going to like a conference on drugs policies or something like that? I definitely know some avid psychedelic users who love to go to those things and trip out in the hotels while they're there. So that definitely seems like a potential option to me too, and a bit more mainstream than the rave option.

Just go to any hippie music festival or phish concert, definitely you will find some psychonauts there. Of course making a lasting friendship/connection is more difficult than simply meeting someone. Meeting someone with similar interests as yours doesn't automatically make you friends, especially if they don't live right near you. And like the above poster said, the psychonauts won't always stand out from all the people who just like getting high and having a good time. Alternatively you could move to an area with a lot of hippies, like San Fransisco. Last time I was in Boulder Colorado, there seemed to be a thriving hippie population there as well.

^ How long ago was that? I've heard Boulder's been overrun by road-raging drivers and trust-fund kids from LA....

Hippie festivals are everywhere, you'd certainly find psychonauts there. I consider myself a psychonaut and I'm pretty into that scene.

Immerse yourself in underground) electronic music culture (house, techno, d&b etc) and you will find a plethora of like minded souls who take drugs and are generally quite up for experimenting with psychedelics.

Alternatively, if you want the tailor made converts, get yourself to a hippie festival and get talking to people. Go on a regular basis.

I'd reccomend getting yourself to a psy-trance festival/party. Somewhere outdoors preferably. If acid and MDMA got together and had a conceptial baby, who was tribal and cool to the fuxking core, it's psychedelic trance culture, and it's happening all over the world.

Get involved, and never look back. The guys at these festivals are like "fancy any *insert incredibly rare psychedelic here*, mate?" And you're like "No mate we've got some cheers, but we're on the *insert other incredinlbly different psychedelic here* tonight. You's coming down the forest stage?" Then everybody just has the most incredible experience together in amongst a fuck load of people who are doing exactly the same thing.

Unbridled, pure, tribal, unadulterated human hedonism. This whole culture is the forefront of the human experience. I don't see how it could be topped.

Which country are you from?

I need to get myself to a few festivals. I've always known it's the place to start, but I always think you have to remember that making friends and connecting is one thing and just getting absolutely wrecked to put it one way, is completely different.

From the experiences I've had, it would be just out of this world to have those experiences even just for a few days and those experiences alone last far longer if in the right set and setting than anything else I've ever been through.

It's a gift to the other side like the Platform on Harry Potter. Only with the platform Harry has just find and jump through, he didn't need to absorb into his system a dose of LSD (or did he? A good one for the tinfoil hat theorists) and if he did, I can bet his final destination would of been a whole lot better! That being said, it's those golden moments I'm looking for and I see these boards are a great place to start but... For most who know the Internet from its early age, typing one thing and representing it in real life person to person are two different things.

There's that smokescreen where all you can do is imagine the other person whereas meeting that person and seeing them in the flesh is a big difference. So online endeavours I believe, aren't always the best ones to begin with if you seek out a true connection. Then again, that point could also be wrong.. But I think you get the idea.

Just want to be around like minded people, open up and feel those experiences in as many ways and means possible.

Prison wrecks lives. Psychedelics can be beneficial and can be used responsibly. Most of the harm from drugs results from prohibitionist polices rather than the actual chemicals. Remember, undercover narcs are out there.

Remember being involved with drug possession and distribution is a prohibited act.

yup. if you come across an area that just reeks like patchouli oil, you'll know that you're in the right place, you're sure to find some psychedelics there

I'm in the same boat actually, always asking my friends about trying something new to see why people use that drug and to experience what it does to you. but all i get in return is ''yeah but I read somewhere that bla bla bla happened when somebody took that''. :\

When you guys say, move to an area.. Do these areas actually exist or is it a cultural custom to believe they do? I'm from the UK and back in 06 you could smell green everywhere in my area, and you'd always find cults and communities but today, at least from what I can see these don't exist or have moved underground. No surprise really with the bullying arm of law and corruption.

There should be some sort of specialist communication tools for psychonauts and avid scene communities. I know, BL has been around for AGES. But it brings the mass discussion to one area but that area I can imagine is hard to tap into in regards to real life person to person friendships etc. That has its advantages but also moves the whole movement even more underground.

It's pathetic really isn't it.. When people have to use pseudonyms and handles and almost disguise their human existence just to be able to discuss this stuff without being groped by the long arm of the law.

Yes, in the United States different places have vastly different cultures. Also, how aggressively the government pursues minorities and illegal drug users has enormous variation. Extremely conservative places such as Kansas experience strong prejudice against dark people (KKK murders ect.) and mostly accepted drugs such as cannabis receive aggressive prosecution. The liberal coastal cities really are as open as people say. In fact personal drug possession was recently defelonized in San Francisco and all of California. The difference between small town Kansas and San Francisco, California could be as extreme as life in prison vs. a monetary fine.

Haight-Ashbury, The Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, and the Acid Tests are all from San Francisco, California. MAPS headquarters are also located about 80 miles down the road.

William Leonard Pickard also was involved with the San Francisco Bay area. Pickard's work saved the lives of a bunch of people and gave me life. Pickard was a non-violent Harvard educated Buddhist. Pickard visited small town Kansas and the experience resulted multiple consecutive life sentences.

Eeeehhhh, you're pretty much screwed if you get busted with psychedelic hallucinogens anywhere in the USA. LSD, psilocybin etc are schedule 1 everywhere in the country, and the prosecution regarding such offenses is weirdly draconian. I can pretty much guarantee that the views of most of the SFPD regarding hallucinogens are probably just as ignorant as the views of cops elsewhere on the subject. The good news is that such drugs aren't really on law enforcement's radar when compared to other drugs, like meth, heroin or pills.
