trailer

touching film about a 12 year old boy and his vampire girlfriend. it's a little slow moving, don't expect normal bloody vampire stuff, not so much about vampires but more so friendship and loyalty. visually beautiful as well, pretty scenes of snow covered sweden at night. so if in the mood for a darkly atmospheric, yet poetic and unexpectedly tender story of adolescence. give "Let the Right One In" a viewing.

* 5/5. watched it again, can't think of anything that would make it better. 2nd time around and more i think about it, the more i appreciate it, a good movie like this is my antidepressant. the end was pretty damn cool, a gnarly scene filmed under water.

the director of "cloverfield" is going to remake this, the director of the original says "he is not happy that the film is being remade, saying that "Remakes should be made of movies that aren’t very good, that gives you the chance to fix whatever has gone wrong" and expressing concern that the end result would be too mainstream."

I've been wanting to see this since I first read about it in Fangoria. The trailer only makes me want to see it more.

yeah, this is a really great movie in a very surprising way.

it embodies all of the things that are lacking in American cinema but doesn't get bogged down in some of the shortcomings of foreign films. that is, it is a horror film that is not about gore and horny teenagers. at the same time it is exciting and very watchable.

personally, i am not a fan of horror movies or having to read subtitles. but this movie is so well done and beautiful-looking, that it made me forget these hang ups. this definitely deserves a place on the top ten of 2008 list.

one thing worth knowing before watching this film is that it is supposed to take place in the 1980s. i was under the impression that Sweden still looked like this today until i read a synopsis. :)
