I'm familiar with this sensation. Selfishly motivated intoxication makes it easier for me to handle and compartmentalize the crushing regrets that paralyze me. Oftentimes, though, removing regret creates a monster. I also used to identify myself by the monster inside me. I enjoyed reading this.
