Does purifying liquid XR methylphenidate remove the polistirex?

I am trying to make quillivant (liquid time release Ritalin) into IR. I am confident an acid base extraction will let me get the Ritalin out (with a bit of looking into the ingredients solubilities). But have no idea whether I will remove the polistirex in the process.

I can't seem to find much information on polistirex at all. If it's a plastic, I am very unclear on how it can coat Ritalin while in a liquid. Any help appreciated.
