Hey guys so my buddy swim decided to try doing an iv shot of dilaudid in a not usual place for him, top of his hand.
So he prepped the shot cleaned the injection site as always. Flagged everything seemed fine so he proceeded to push the plunger down. Swim noticed that it didn't hurt like he had missed ( he had missed before in his arm) but it didn't feel normal. He then noticed that the area had swelled up as if the liquid wasn't pumping into the vien. It was quite apparent quickly as there was no real rush like he noramally enjoyed so much.
It was tingling slightly almost a nervey numbness. This freaked swim out a bit
So he put a hot cloth compress over it and that seemed to take care of 90% of the swelling with in a few minutes.
This was less then an hour ago and all that's left is maybe a tiny bit of swelling and a slight (but I wouldn't say painful) tingle. I'm a little freaked out about it though as my friend has been using iv dilaudid on and off for the last few years and never experienced such a thing.
