Dihydrocodeine and CWE

Hi I'm new to the site and seeking some advice on cold water extraction (CWE), particularly related to paracetamol.

I made two drinks, both using the same CWE method, crushing, stirring, setting, chilling then filtering.

I used two different types of dihydrocodeine + paracetamol, co-dydramol and paramol.

The co-dydramol was 10mg dihydrocodeine and 500mg paracetamol, whereas the paramol was 7.46mg dihydrocodeine and 500mg paracetamol.

My co-dydramol drink was crystal clear and was 80mg of dihydrocodeine and 50ml of water (8 tablets).

My paramol drink was quite cloudy and had around 105mg of dihydrocodeine and 150ml of water (14 tablets).

Considering the maximum (UK government limit) dosage of paracetamol is 4000mg, I'm wondering if I could potentially take in 11000mg of paracetamol (or 22 tablets) if I drink both? I drank the clearer one around 30 minutes ago and am feeling nothing.

Any advice would be great, thanks.

I would not advise taking that much in one go, also I could be wrong on this but I thought it was only codeine that could be CWE'd

Dihydrocodeine is very similar to codeine in terms of its chemistry, or so I've read on multiple forums and websites.

I've read that CWE works with dihydrocodeine.

I've also read that it's 1.5 times the strength of codeine; but yields a longer more chilled buzz.

Dihydrocodeine has also is less effective than codeine when taken orally.

(Sources of people saying it's worked.)

dihydrocodeine from paramol is much better for cwe only problem is the price compared to cheap co codamol so I only use dihydrocodeine now and again

You really should be fine. Cold Water Extraction is not rocket science. You should expect to consume minute amounts of Paracetamol in the process, but in general, it's a generally safe process. I've ingested grams upon grams of Codeine from 8mg/Combi pills while overseas on multiple occasions and have never had any liver issues nor acute toxic effects that one would expect from poisoning of this kind, which is a good point to make. If you do accidentally poison yourself with Paracetamol, there will almost certainly be acute symptoms.

You can extract <90% dihydrocodeine with just 20 mL water. Then you only ingest about 200-300mg APAP.

The difference between codeïne and dihydrocodeine is that DHC is the main active (lipophilic) molecule wereas codeïne has to be converted to morhine (morphine is hydrophilic and a p-glycoprotein substrate). I have to take enormous amounts of codeïne to feel something nice (around 300mg) but it has nasty side effects. Dihydrocodeine feels a lot more like a clean high. People compare it to heroin actually.

You can boost DHC strongly by bypassding firstpass metabolism (IV, intranasal, rectal, sublingual). IV gives 8 times higher blood concentrations then oral. (I discourage IV though because it's very risky and dangerous + the risk of a severe histamine reaction)

This is a reference from pubmed that seems to indicate that there is no great advantage over parenteral administration. It's hard to believe, but I've read multiple accounts implying that oral administration is ultimately more effective. I'm totally open for debate though.

Codeine and Dihydrocodeine are essentially analogous. Codeine is converted to Morphine, while DHC is converted to Dihydromorphine. DHC is more potent than Codeine, but the nature of the conversion to the active compound appears to follow a very similar pathway. It would seem that ~20% based upon individual physiology is the most you can expect to convert.
