While the COVID-19 pandemic has affected people worldwide, it has deeply impacted those dealing with substance addictions. Experts have consistently reported a pattern of addictions rising during natural disasters and pandemics. Are COVID measures such as social isolation doing more harm than good to those struggling with addictions?
Short periods of isolation have a negative impact on mental well-being. They can lead to anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. People with pre-existing mental illnesses have seen their psychological symptoms worsen during isolation, with some turning to illicit substance use as a way to cope. Those already abusing substances have become increasingly dependent on them. Some individuals are struggling with both mental illness and substance addiction, which makes isolation even more difficult.

Kind of explains the obvious but good to see it in print from a good source

I think it's made to be this way. Before COVID-19 governments had been failing their citizens worldwide, except for a few notable countries that have attempted to transform drug policies. The war on drugs is a HUGE failure. Yet it's still a key policy in most governments worldwide.
COVID-19 is simply amplifying what already existed. And theres lots of evidence there to support the fact that COVID-19 itself is mostly a political agenda. So now you have government inflicting even more suffering on their people, specifically certain demographics, and essentially rubbing acid into peoples already existing wounds.

Isolation is a weapon. It's a great tactic in bringing people to their knees. Cities in the Medieval era would be beseiged for days, weeks and even months isolated from the rest of the world with the only hope of letting the enemy in and destroying everything in their path to escape the suffering. Isolation is used in prison systems as an extreme form of punishment, so it is used in torture as well. It's used in abusive relationships, namely narcissistic abusive relationships whereby the perpetrator attempts to cut the victim off from the rest of the world in order to have complete control over them.

Already existing issues in society + mandated isolation and destruction of peoples freedoms and liberties?
You have a recipe for disaster there but you have to look at the bigger picture I think and see there has already been a disaster in the making for a long time. These problems already existed, only now they are seen for what they truly are capable of doing to those experiencing them in a time where reality has been twisted to accept things that wouldn't usually be accepted.
