Cocktails and Mixology Thread

Old Fashioned, the right way.

A deceptively simple classic.

Often described as calling for the simple syrup as above but this is not the traditional way.

Start with a sugar cube and add only enough water to let it dissolve to a somewhat syrup consistencey.

Add 2 dashes of bitters.

"Muddle" it, ideally with a purpose made wooden "muddler," this means to press and spread the syrupy stuff around the bottom of the glass.

Add 50mL of a good straight rye (bourbon and others can be substituted but the rye is classic IMO)

Serve in the eponymous "old fashioned glass" on the rocks.

Orange garnish.

The Alasdairm

2 parts blended Scotch whiskey
1 part Drambuie
1 part Kahlua
1/2 part heavy cream
balance soda
maraschino cherry garnish
on the rocks in a highball

This is off the top of my slightly inebriated head and sounds like it could synergize either interestingly or disgustingly, have not tried it, perhaps I will and report back ;)
When I'm trying to design something I'm usually doing it not just on paper lol but I actually get messy with it
I don't have all these ingredients around, maybe I will make my bartender try to make it tomorrow :p
But the scotch/kahlua/cream is actually done with I forget the name of the cocktail and could synchronize with the honey and spices in Drambuie
soda like in my Godfather variant to keep it from being sickly sweet

Well, it's used in the Mind Eraser (1p Kahlua : 1p Vodka : 1p Soda) but that is properly taken as a sort of shot through a straw, the soda chasing the kahlua chasing the vodka ... and this is not a layered drink (although perhaps it could be reimagined as one) ... i don't think it is necessarily that bad, I'm thinking more along the lines of a classic Italian cream soda with the boozy parts added in, I'd be worried more about the spciy/herby parts of the Drambuie clashing with the rest but I think it has potential. I am definitely going to try to make it sometime :p will write trip report.

thanks. oddly, i dislike whisky but i love drambuie :)

your cocktail sounds strangely compelling.

I would totally order myself in a bar!

I actually really love that clemintina soda! I'm writing this down to order one day. It sounds tasty as fuck.

The Tom Collins, served in the eponymous (tall and narrow) Collins glass

3 parts gin (classically, "Old Tom Gin," a special style which still circulates contemporarily but is not that common)
2 parts lemon juice (ideally, fresh squeezed, those little plastic lemon things are gross tbh)
1 part simple sugar (see above)
balance soda water

also, updated the blueligher-cocktails post

i am not really a tiki guy
but how to make a proper Mai Tai

1 part light rum (overproof if you are adventurous: Wray & Nephew again is a good one)
1 part dark rum (I'd recommend a hatian offering like Rhum Barbancourt 4 years - Goslings if you are a bit more adventurous)
1 part lime juice, should be fresh
1/2 part curaçao
1/4 part simple syrup
lime garnish

another one that will sneak up on you

I was told to post here.
My boyfriend and I bartend for cabaret shows and we usually do one specialty cocktail per show.
This month's theme is champagne, so were doing a champagne cocktail.

Glassware: Champagne flute

3 part champagne
1 part brandy
Sugar cube
Sour cherry garnish (can also use maraschino)

Place the sugar cube into the flute
Add champagne (You can meausre it out or just fill it up about 3/4 of the way
Add the brandy
Add the cherry

No need to stir the cocktail. Let the champagne break down the sugar cube and let the brandy naturally infuse.
Charge $12 and tell the house manager to crank up the heat so they buy more.
Pressure the client into giving a tip by using a square reader and turning the ipad around when the suggested tip screen comes up

I'm trying to balance something out involving tamarind, which doesn't always mix well; it accomodates raw alcohol well enough, as in vodka, and I'm trying to work out some porortions involving gin and maybe grand marnier or curaçao or even triple sec. I think this one is going to be trickybut really tasty.

overindulgence last night on the bright side my experimental grapefruit liqueur is delicious and a smashing success, also very successful at getting a person smashed (it's 60% and thus best served diluted with soda, water, or as an ingredient in a cocktail that I have yet to design. obvious choices would be to replace the dry or sweet vermouth in a martini and a Manhattan, respectively, but it's sweetness would clash with the first but, in small proportion, might go well with the latter but might be cloying, might need some rum and fruity tiki shit...)

Two small parts of orange juice (pulp if you prefer) and vanilla coke, fill the rest of the glass with pepsi. It should have at least two thirds pepsi.
