Chewing vs swallowing

What is the difference? Do people actually chew a pill? And why?

If you chew a pill it will most likely kick in faster. The more surface area there is as the pill goes down your digestive tract, the faster it dissolves.

Depends on the pill...some are more bioavailable sublingually. Others aren't.

Its not going to make a lot of difference for normal tablets. You get minimal absorption from pressed tabs or other basic immediate release forms from the mouth to stomach. The intestine is the site of most absorbtion and by that time, most tabs have dissolved completely chewed or swallowed.
