Challenging taper

I ask, not with an intent to "get high" but to taper down. Can extended release oxy pills be cut in half, safely. All I have are 20mg extended release and I am tapering down/off. I came off of 165 mg, now at 60 mg. I do not want to pull 20mg out at once. Can I cut a 20mg, not ingest the crumbs, just the half, safely, would this equal a 10 mg pill?

And the time release mechanism should remain intact.

Hey, Thanks a lot. I managed to have all the different dosages to get down that 105mg, until now. I see the Doctor in about a week to get the correct mg pills. OH, I developed fainting spells at 165mg.
