"Melbourne DJ handed two life sentences for ecstasy possession in Thailand

A MELBOURNE DJ handed two life sentences for ecstasy possession in Thailand isn’t “tough enough” for the punishment, says a Thai resident claiming to know him.

Jake Mastroianni was caught with 61 pills in Thai resort Pattaya in August, 2014.

On Tuesday, the 26-year-old known by stage name “Badmouth” and his counterpart, Briton Lance Whitmore, failed on appeal to have their sentences reduced.

Former Gold Coast loan shark turned Thailand resident Tim “Sharky” Ward said he knew both Mastroianni and Whitmore, 28, who pleaded guilty to possession of 200 pills and received a 50 year jail term.

“Thailand is a fun place with not a lot of rules, but one very important rule ... NO DRUGS,” Ward wrote on Facebook.

“I know both these guys, and neither one of them is tough enough for this punishment.”

Ward shared a story link about the two men’s drug sentences with his 170,000 followers stating it was a “must read for anyone coming to Thailand”.

The pair are serving their sentences at high-security Klong Prem prison in Bangkok, a notoriously overcrowded jail with putrid conditions.

Mastroianni had regular gigs at Club Sapphire in Pattaya, where videos show near-naked women dancing to his music on stripper poles.

Almost a year before he was arrested for ecstasy possession, Mastrioianni shared his excitement over running a DJ set at the popular Full Moon party.

“Just DJ at the full moon party. Feeling pumped!!” he wrote on social media.

Now, he’s sitting in a cramped Thai cell for up to 13 hours a day.

Harsh huh!

They were executing drug dealers in extrajudicial killings for a while under Thaksin Shinawatra. They killed thousands. The cops used it to kill people that were suing them, killing activists and such, not to mention taking out rival gangs, taking over their territory and then dealing drugs through their gangs.

Just like what is happening in the Philippines with that Durty puta madre fella.

When will they learn that killing drug users and dealers doesn't actuall stop drug trafficking. All it does is

- trim the herd down. It kills the weaker ones and forces the rest of the herd to step up their game.
- it makes the drugs way more expensive motivating more people to deal. IT causes more users to spend money they don't have forcing them to work for gangs so they can pay for their addictions.
- with more disposable foot soldiers the gangs can insulate themselves whilst the cops kill the peons.
- allows the corrupt cops to take out rival gangs and then take over their rivals networks and territories.

Net result. More drugs, more killing, more corruption.

Being a falang in Thailand dealing drugs is always going to end in tears. The Thai mafia is very well connected and embedded in all layers of society. This guy was just a gift to the police to parade to show what a good job the cops are doing. Meanwhile the drugs keep flowing. This is the way of Thailand. I have spent years there. Indulge if you are smart about it. Never sell. Ever.

It always makes me laugh (mirthlessly) when I hear comments from ignorant people, online and IRL, about how we just need a zero tolerance stance on drugs like south east Asia. Because that just works so well. As with everything else in life, it's all about who you know and how deep your pockets are. Everything else is a distant secondary consideration.
