Opioids Anyone else find codeine hard to taper with?

So I've been on codeine/DHC for many years. I find it almost impossible to control my dosage and end up taking far more than prescribed. Recently I found a source for 10mg oxy. I manage fine on 20mg of oxy a day, but with DHC find myself taking up to 600mg a day and can't control myself. I can take 10mg in the morning and I'm good until evening. This has made cutting back 10 times as easy as codeine/DHC. I know conversion charts will say 20mg of oxy is equal to 400mg of codeine/DHC, but anyone who's taken them will know 20mg of oxy in 2 doses is pretty low, whereas 400mg of DHC is quite a bit. Maybe its because I don't feel very high on this dose of oxy but it manages pain and WDs better than multiple high doses of DHC which actually get me pretty messed up? Anyone else find these 2 extremely compulsive compared to other opioid?
