Afghanistan opium harvest at record high

I've always wondered why if they can grow such potent poppies for the pharmaceutical industry in Tassy why there isn't places in Oz that are producing heroin. I've been told theories before on here but I've forgotten lol.

^Probably just the very large growing area required for this to be viable and the risk of detection. assuming average figures;
1 hectare/10000 square metres = 30kgs opium =3 kgs morphine/heroin
I suppose a quarter acre might be feasible netting a nice 300g, seems like a lot of work when you consider the people bringing the stuff in usually just give some poor sod a few grand to risk smuggling it in.

I think in the future we will see more local drug production , once these drug cartels create GE strains of plants or bacterias that produce various drugs , the genes for morphine and codeine where discovered 3 years ago so it's only a matter of time
